Billy Ray Cyrus Is Just Happy That Daughter Miley Is Happy – and Engaged
Billy Ray Cyrus has one thing to say when asked if he approves of daughter Miley'sfiancé: I do!
"Liam [Hemsworth]'s a great guy," Billy Ray told ET Canada in an interview on Wednesday. "I like Liam a lot."
The singer and the Aussie actor got engaged on May 31 after three years of dating, and Miley, 19, told PEOPLE at the time, "I'm so happy to be engaged and look forward to a life of happiness with Liam."
Happiness, as it turns out, runs in the family, says Billy Ray, who took great pleasure in his daughter's news. "The main thing for me is that both of them are happy," he says. "Miley's worked really hard, and I'm enjoying right now seeing her so happy."
"She and I always had a mantra," he continues, "and the mantra was: if you ain't happy, it ain't working." Says Cyrus: "As long as [Miley's] happy right now, life is good!"
As for Hemsworth, 22, Billy Ray says he didn't pop the question without consulting him first. "We talked about it a couple of times," says Billy Ray of the proposal.
Cyrus isn't short on advice when it comes to good parenting, either. He tells ET Canada, "[You need to] love your kids and be there for them – be there to support them and listen."
